Canada, Memorial University The Photonics Group: graduate study
The Photonics Group in the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography of the Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada has immediate openings for graduate studies to carry out research on the theme of ultrafast nano-photonics through photonic materials and devices. The research will use tunable femtosecond lasers, scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM/NSOM), fiber-optic systems, mass spectrometer, and vacuum deposition systems to study ultrafast photonics, nanophotonics, fiber-optics and sensors, organic photonics (polymer solar cells), and biophotonics. The self-motivated candidates are expected to have a background in physics, or engineering, or material science. Knowledge on optics is needed. Applicants with backgrounds other than physics may be majored in other Departments at Memorial University of Newfoundland, in commensurate with their backgrounds. All applicants admitted in the graduate program in physics receive full scholarships. Starting date will be January 2011 or later. Details on the research group can be found at
