Phoneme's projects are meant to appeal to as wide an audience as possible and to represent the excitement, importance, and vitality of reading more widely. This explains Phoneme's emphasis on film, from documentary portraits of our writers to inter-media film-based performances. This year Phoneme will release Uyghur poet Ahmatjan Osman's selected works, translated by Jeffrey Yang, as well as an anthology of poetry from five indigenous Mexican languages. Each will feature complimentary film components. Projects from Burundi and Equatorial Guinea are also in development.
